Van Antalya naar Arnhem
De eigenaar van Stomerij Zeyrek, Aziz Zeyrek, is 47 jaar en heeft jarenlang hard gewerkt om wat te bereiken in Nederland. Hij komt van oorsprong uit Antalya (badplaats) en heeft bij verschillende bedrijven gewerkt alvorens hij bij zijn eigen stomerij terecht kwam. Toen hij in Nederland kwam was sprak hij geen woord Nederlands en had hij zijn studie niet afgemaakt. Hij begon dus met een enorme achterstand.
Hard werken
Maar dat haalde hij vrij snel in door harder en langer te werken dan vele anderen. Zeyrek gaf nooit op en bleef zich inzetten om een ‘normaal’ bestaan op te bouwen in Nederland, alhoewel dat anno 2015 wel heel moeilijk is. Eigenlijk deed Zeyrek niet anders dan de meeste Turkse gastarbeiders in Nederland. Hij werkte heel hard en ging verstandig om met zijn inkomen. Het is hem uiteindelijk tochgelukt om met heel veel pijn en moeite een eigen zaak te beginnen.
Stomerij Zeyrek bestaat inmiddels al 10 jaar en is een begrip in Arnhem en omgeving. Het bedrijf verricht zelfs werkzaamheden in verschillende steden buiten Arnhem dankzij een eigen ophaalservice. Met steun van zijn vrouw en kinderen werkt Zeyrek zelf nog steeds dag en (soms) nacht om kleding en textiel te reinigen.
Voorzitter ‘TOV’
Aziz Zeyrek werd in 2015 ook gekozen tot de nieuwe voorzitter van de Turkse ondernemers vereniging (TOV) in Arnhem. Hij nam het stuur over van Rahmi Gemril. Hij is natuurlijk niet zomaar de voorman geworden van de Turkse ondernemers vereniging. Zeyrek zat jarenlang in het bestuur en zette zich toen ook al in voor de ondernemers in de stad met problemen en achterstanden.
Hij weet namelijk als geen ander hoe het is om met niets te beginnen en heel hard te werken om succesvol te worden…
