‘Snuivende’ Vitesse-hooligans zorgen voor rellen in Arnhem
De rellen die vanmiddag voor de wedstrijd Vitesse-Southampton begonnen zijn volgens een ooggetuige, vooral te danken aan ‘snuivende’ Vitesse fans die ook nog eens te veel alochol op hadden. De Gelderlander kopte donderdagavond al dat Feyenoord-supporters verantwoordelijk waren voor de rellen, maar paste dat ook vrij snel aan en hield het bij een gerucht dat onderzocht zou worden.
Meerderheid Vitesse-fans rustig
Volgens een ooggetuige op de Korenmarkt waren het ‘weer dezelfde mensen’ van de harde kern van Vitesse die bewust de confrontratie opzochten met andere voetbalfans. ‘Die gasten snuiven alles wat los en vast staat. Als ze dan ook nog teveel op hebben, krijg je dit als resultaat.’ De Vitesse-hooligans zorgden voor een warme ontvangst door te smijten met stoelen en tafels totdat de ME tussenbeide kwam. Gelukkig waren er ook nog Vitesse-fans die ingrepen om de eigen hooligans in toom te houden.
Southampton-plein heeft gewerkt
Dankzij de Southampton-plein is de schade nog redelijk beperkt gebleven voor Arnhem. Anders was de kans groot dat elders in de stad ook rellen zouden kunnen ontstaan. De politie heeft volgens de laatste berichten ongeveer 75 mensen aangehouden, een klein deel daarvan waren Engelse voetbalfans.
