State of Fashion volgt Arnhem Mode Biënnale op
State of Fashion wordt de titel van het kwalitatief hoogstaand mode-event in Arnhem. State of Fashion vindt eens in de vier jaar plaats, voor het eerst in 2018, en wordt afgewisseld met Sonsbeek, de befaamde Arnhemse tentoonstelling voor beeldende kunst.
Met het nieuwe concept en de nieuwe naam voor het mode-event volgen de gemeente, ArtEZ en Museum Arnhem in grote lijnen het advies van Christine de Baan. Zij werkte het concept voor State of Fashion uit. Dit evenement volgt de Arnhem Mode Biënnale op.
Zowel State of Fashion als Sonsbeek 2016 worden organisatorisch onder de Stichting Sonsbeek Internationaal gebracht.
Samenwerking met ArtEZ als uitgangspunt
Arnhem dankt haar reputatie als modestad aan de aanwezigheid van ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. De verbinding met ArtEZ bij de organisatie van State of Fashion is logisch en noodzakelijk. Deze verbinding zal, meer dan de afgelopen jaren gebeurde, nadrukkelijk merkbaar zijn. Dat betekent meer gebruik maken van bestaande kennis en netwerken en van de energie van studenten en alumni van ArtEZ. State of Fashion maakt gebruik van de in Arnhem aanwezige grondstof en legt de nadruk op het verbinden van het bestaande en het creëren van een podium voor de state of the art of fashion. Het is bovendien een platform voor onderzoek en experimenten. Lopende onderzoeken kunnen worden gepresenteerd, maar het evenement kan ook nieuwe projecten op gang brengen.
Modestad
State of Fashion versterkt ook de reputatie van Arnhem als Modestad. Er wordt nauw samengewerkt met andere mode-initiatieven zoals het jaarlijkse Fashion Festival Arnhem, mode-tentoonstellingen in het museum, de ArtEZ Graduation Shows en Finals. Gevolg is een meer structurele samenwerking van mode-partners in de stad.
Stichting Sonsbeek Internationaal als moederorganisatie
De stichting Sonsbeek Internationaal gaat beide beeldbepalende culturele evenementen, Sonsbeek en State of Fashion, uitvoeren met een compacte kernorganisatie. Deze wordt afwisselend per evenement uitgebreid met specifieke expertise. Deze constructie heeft als voordeel dat het overzichtelijk blijft en dat de stad één aanspreekpunt heeft voor de twee evenementen. Budget kan dan effectiever worden besteed, er gaat geen kennis verloren en de continuïteit is geborgd. De gemeente Arnhem staat op afstand van beide evenementen en stuurt via de subsidierelatie. De Stichting Sonsbeek Internationaal staat sinds kort onder leiding van de nieuwe bestuursvoorzitter Eiso Alberda van Ekenstein. Het zittende bestuur, bestaande uit Hedwig Saam, Alex van Hooff en Guus van Kleef, wordt verder uitgebreid met twee leden voorgedragen door ArtEZ en Museum Arnhem. Het bestuur stelt een kwartiermaker aan die State of Fashion 2018 gaat voorbereiden.
