Arnhems eerste restaurant met kip prominent op de kaart
Op 3 oktober 2015 is de feestelijke opening van restaurant Walid’s: het eerste restaurant in Arnhem waar kipgerechten centraal staan. Om de hoek van de Mediamarkt, in de Ingenieur J.P. van Muijlwijkstraat, kunnen de gasten van Walid’s smullen van heerlijke en eerlijke kipgerechten. Tijdens de opening krijgt iedere gast een gratis welkomstdrankje naar keuze.
Eigenaar en chefkok Walid Alomari bereidt de kip volgens eigen recept. ‘Ik gebruik invloeden uit de Portugese keuken en uit de Zuid-Afrikaanse keuken. Mijn keukengeheim zijn de Zuid-Afrikaanse kruiden die ik gebruik om de kip op smaak te brengen.’

Walid Alomari weet door zijn jarenlange horeca-ervaring in het Engelse Birmingham dat kip een veelzijdig stukje vlees is áls je het op smaak weet te brengen met de juiste mix van kruiden. ‘De kunst is om het vlees mals te houden na de bereiding,’ zegt Walid. Hij heeft overigens niet alleen kip piri pari, gegrilde kip en checken wings op het menu staan, ook vegetariërs kunnen bij Walid’s terecht voor een heerlijk pittabroodje, een vegetarische burger of portabella’s met halloumi-kaas.

Walid geeft families en vriendengroepen die bij hem komen eten speciale aandacht door de diverse familieborden op de menukaart. ‘Je kunt bijvoorbeeld chicken wings of een hele gegrilde kip voor een hele tafel bestellen en dat delen. Het samen delen van gerechten is typisch Afrikaans,’ aldus Walid. ‘Die Afrikaanse gastvrijheid wil ik ook uitstralen. Ik wil dat mijn gasten zich comfortabel voelen bij Walid’s, alsof ze bij familie zijn.’

Walid’s is te vinden in de Ingenieur J.P. van Muilwijkstraat 21, om de hoek van de Mediamarkt. Het restaurant heeft 34 plaatsen. Gasten zijn welkom op dinsdag en woensdag van 12.00 uur tot 22.00 uur.
