De Partij voor de Dieren wil dat gemeente Arnhem optreedt tegen de grootschalige energieverspilling door openstaande winkeldeuren in de winter. Raadslid Leo de Groot stelt hierover schriftelijke vragen aan het college van B&W. Veel winkeliers houden hun deuren gedurende openingstijden standaard open, ook in de winter. Daarmee stoken ze voor de straat. Als winkeliers hun deur dichtdoen of kiezen voor systemen waarbij de deuren dichtgaan als er geen klanten in- of uitlopen, kunnen ze zo’n 40% besparen op energieverbruik. Winst voor de portemonnee en het klimaat.
Openstaande winkeldeuren zijn een heel zichtbare vorm van energieverspilling. Terwijl mensen thuis moeite doen om energie te besparen, moeten ze toezien hoe bij winkeliers de warmte de straat in waait. Dat is niet bepaald motiverend.
De verontwaardiging onder winkelend publiek over de winterse energieverspilling is al lange tijd hoorbaar en heeft geleid tot verschillende initiatieven en experimenten op lokaal en landelijk niveau. Veel winkeliers hebben hierop positief gereageerd. Ondanks dat proeven hebben getoond dat het sluiten van de deuren geen impact heeft op het winkelbezoek, zijn veel winkeliers toch nog huiverig om de laatste stap te zetten.
Dichte winkeldeur levert geld op
Een dichte winkeldeur kan een jaarlijkse besparing tot 10 ton CO2 opleveren, berekenden onderzoekers van Cambridge. De Partij voor de Dieren vindt dat de energieverspilling door open winkels in de winter niet past in een gemeente die zegt duurzaamheid hoog in het vaandel te hebben.
Gemeenten kunnen zelf regels invoeren om winkeliers te verplichten hun deuren te sluiten. Bovendien zijn veelverbruikers verplicht om besparende maatregelen te nemen die zich binnen vijf jaar terugbetalen. De Partij voor de Dieren wil dat het college regels invoert en handhavend optreedt tegen nodeloze verspilling.
