Gastvrijste Turken van Turkije
Posof ligt aan de voet van de Caucasus waar migratie al veel eerder begon dan in de jaren zestig. Het plaatsje ligt op een van de twee wegen die Turkije met Georgie verbindt. Eeuwenlang keken de bewoners toe hoe vluchtelingen, legers en later toeristen hun weg vonden langs de kronkelwegen van Posof. Posof kende een winter van 8 maanden waardoor de toevallige passanten altijd goed werden ontvangen. Het is dan ook geen toeval dat ze tot de gastvrijste Turken worden gerekend. En dat zegt wat in een gastvrij land als Turkije.

Behalve dat de Turken uit Posof heel erg gehecht zijn aan elkaar zijn er ook veel succesvolle ondernemers in Nederland en Belgie met een Posof-achtergrond. Jaarlijks komen ook tienduizenden Turken uit heel Europa (met roots in Posof) bijeen in Eindhoven voor een ‘Seyran’: Een openlucht festival waarbij cultuur, lekker eten en dansen (halay) centraal staat.
