Arnhemmer Mullenberg gaat door naar volgende ronde in Rio
Arnhemmer Peter Mullenberg is door naar de volgende ronde. De bokser won zijn eerste wedstrijd in Rio van de Iranier Rouzbahani in de klasse tot 81 kg. Zijn tegenstander stond voor de wedstrijd nog nummer zeven op de wereldranglijst.
Drie scheidsrechters waren unaniem van mening dat Mullenberg op punten had gewonnen, na drie boksronden van drie minuten.
Succes na Orhan Delibas
Mullenberg maakt na Arnhemmer Orhan Delibas, 24 jaar geleden, weer kans op een medaille tijdens de Olympische Spelen in Brazilie. De bokser staat op dit moment vijfde op de wereldranglijst.
Arnhemse boksers en Olympische Spelen
De prestaties van de Arnhemse boksers is eigenlijk uniek. Huissenaar Lacruz won vanmiddag ook en haalde de achtse finales. Na 24 jaar doet Nederland weer mee, met deelnemers uit Arnhem en Huissen. In 1992 won de Turkse Arnhemmer Orhan Delibas zilver voor Nederland en van der Leyde brons. Arnhem is eigenlijk nu al de boksstand van Nederland geworden.
